I came back for the end of day meetup and had some great conversations then unlike in person ICC had a quiet evening and got a great night of rest.ĭay 2 brought the developer panel with some good insights on where Ignition is headed along with the usual rounds of “What about script debuggers? When do we get Push Notifications? When is Version Control going to get better? How long until Vision is dead?” and everyone’s favorite “When do we get a tool that can pinch to zoom into a screen and show different graphics based on the zoom level?” As is the case with running a company I did the virtual meet up then took the afternoon sessions off for some meetings. Then I sat in on the Inkscape for Perspective session learning some valuable insights on SVGs in Perspective. Up next I watched the Covid Vaccine presentation which had some great insights on solving such a large scale manufacturing effort. As usual the keynote welcomed new folks into the Ignition community and brought together and invigorated the seasoned veterans, kicking off the conference. This brought all the awkwardness you’d expect people mixing with one another in person without all the background noise of the conference. Each avatar had a little dot moving around to follow your mouse showing where you were “looking”. For example during the “Meet the Exhibitor” meetup there were boxes for each vendor with their reps “hanging out” in their area and you could motor your avatar there if you wanted to chat. In Wonder.Me you could do impromptu hangout sessions with video building small circles of conversation or joining larger ones, and you could move an avatar to different sections of the screen where there were named boxes. This gave the conference feel probably 80% of the interaction of the normal conference. Gone was the firehose of Discord, replaced by Attendify and Wonder.Me for virtual hangouts.

Things definitely evolved from last year with the conference being virtual again. This week we took part in the Ignition Community Conference (ICC).
